These changes have posed considerable regulatory challenges, prompting the European legislator to adopt a multi-layered regulatory approach. This approach integrates the&nbsp;<strong>GDPR<\/strong>&nbsp;with the newly introduced&nbsp;<strong>AI Act<\/strong>, recently approved by the European Parliament as part of the EU\u2019s broader digital strategy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This strategy, rooted in the EU\u2019s commitment to fostering technological innovation while safeguarding fundamental rights, is structured through a comprehensive system of interconnected rules. These include not only the GDPR and AI Act but also the&nbsp;<strong>Data Governance Act<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Data Act<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Digital Services Act<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Digital Markets Act<\/strong>. Together, they create an integrated legal framework aimed at establishing a unified digital market in Europe, characterized by high standards for protecting individual rights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Within this intricate regulatory context, the interaction between the&nbsp;<strong>GDPR and AI Act<\/strong>&nbsp;is particularly significant. AI systems inherently require the processing of vast amounts of personal data, both for training algorithms and their operational use. The complexity of this interaction is evident when analyzing how these two frameworks integrate and complement one another. Companies developing or using AI systems will need to implement new compliance processes that address both regulations. For instance, a company deploying AI-based recruitment software must ensure GDPR compliance for processing candidates\u2019 data while meeting the AI Act\u2019s requirements for algorithmic transparency and non-discrimination. This necessitates specialized teams with expertise in privacy, AI, and regulatory compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operational challenges will extend to documentation and procedures. Organizations must redesign their risk assessment models, integrating DPIA and FRIA into a unified, efficient process. Templates and workflows must be updated to address both privacy and AI-specific aspects, such as algorithm robustness and potential biases. Continuous monitoring systems will also be essential to maintain compliance over time, given the dynamic risk management approaches required by both regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ability to navigate these regulatory requirements effectively will depend on developing practical procedures and operational tools, such as integrated checklists for project evaluations, collaborative workflows involving all relevant functions, and advanced logging and documentation systems.
