Ten years after its entry into force, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) remains a cornerstone of digital rights protection in Europe. In an interview with Economy Magazine<\/em>, Aurora Agostini<\/a> discusses how this regulatory framework has redefined the relationship between data, businesses, and citizens, adapting to an ever-evolving technological landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rise of generative artificial intelligence, the data economy, and new regulatory challenges has raised questions about the GDPR\u2019s role and adequacy in today\u2019s digital era.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe real question is not whether the GDPR will survive AI, but whether AI\u2014especially generative AI\u2014can truly be reconciled without friction with a framework originally designed for more predictable, narrowly defined processing. If the GDPR\u2019s first decade was about compliance, the second will be about the tangible demonstration of accountability\u2014i.e., organizations\u2019 ability to show that innovation can remain compatible with fundamental rights,\u201d explains Aurora Agostini.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The discussion therefore focuses not only on personal data protection but also on organizations\u2019 ability to integrate innovation and rights safeguarding, maintaining an increasingly complex balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
