LEXIA at The UIA Union Internationale des Avocats Seminar in Luxembourg

Inhalt

LEXIA will take part in the upcoming UIA Union Internationale des Avocats Seminar in Luxembourg, set to take place on October 12-13, 2023. This event promises to be a powerhouse of legal insights, discussions, and networking opportunities for all legal enthusiasts and professionals alike.

LEXIA will be represented at the seminar by Francesco Dagnino, our Managing Partner, who will be a co-moderator. Francesco will be engaging in discussions on the challenges of contract law, artificial intelligence, fintech, data protection, and new legislation on digital services, in order to tackle the complex issues at the forefront of the legal profession today.

About the event

The UIA seminar will cover challenges and opportunities of harmonizing European contract law and regulating the digital economy.

One of the main challenges is the lack of harmonization in some areas of contract law, such as obligations, liability, and prescription. This can lead to problems for businesses operating in multiple jurisdictions.

Another challenge is the rapid development of digital technology. New technologies such as fintech, blockchain, and artificial intelligence raise new legal and ethical questions.

The European Commission is responding to these challenges with a series of legislative reforms, including the EU Digital Package. These reforms aim to create a more harmonized and competitive legal environment for businesses and consumers in the digital age.

The seminar will discuss the following topics:

  • The state of harmonization in European contract law and the consequences of its absence
  • How the international economic community has adapted to the lack of harmonization
  • Ways to address the lack of harmonization, including through the UNIDROIT principles and contractual clauses
  • The EU Digital Package and its objectives
  • The impact of the CJEU on European contract law

The seminar will bring together experts from a variety of fields, including law, economics, and business. It will provide a valuable opportunity to discuss the challenges and opportunities of harmonizing European contract law and regulating the digital economy.
