On November 10, 2023, the European Commission approved an Italian scheme of 1.7 billion euros in favor of agrivoltaic installations.

The Commission approved new incentives in support of agrivoltaics, amounting to 1.7 billion euros.
The support scheme will last until June 30, 2024, and will be partially financed through the Recovery and Resilience Facility (“RRF“), following the positive assessment by the EU Commission of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (“PNRR“).

The support scheme entails introducing aid to assist agricultural producers cumulatively in the form of:

  • investment grants, with a total budget of 1.1 billion euros, covering up to 40% of eligible investment costs.;
  • incentive tariffs, with an estimated budget of 560 million euros, to be paid during the operational phase of the projects, spanning a 20-year period.

The tariffs will be determined through a competitive bidding process following the “pay-as-bid” principle and will take the form of two-way contracts for difference. The support will cover the difference between the incentive tariffs and energy prices.
The support scheme backs the construction and management of new agrivoltaic installations in Italy, totaling a capacity of 1.04 GW and an annual electricity production of at least 1300 GWh.
