The space economy is already a strategic sector for industrial competitiveness, technological innovation and investment attraction.
In an article published by Cor.Com, Aurora Agostini examines the significance of Law No. 89/2025, the first comprehensive legislative framework adopted by an EU Member State to regulate activities related to the space economy.
The new legislation introduces authorisation procedures, safety requirements, insurance obligations and financial support measures, with the aim of providing operators with a more stable regulatory framework and fostering the growth of the national space supply chain.
However, the actual impact of the reform will depend on the implementing decrees, which will need to strike a balance between security requirements and the need to avoid hindering the development of start-ups and SMEs.
At the same time, the legislative process for the EU Space Act is expected to lead to greater harmonisation of the applicable rules at European level, making it essential for businesses to monitor regulatory developments and promptly adapt their organisational and compliance frameworks.
