Overview

Andrew G. Paton is Of Counsel in the Litigation, Arbitration & Legal Risk Mitigation practice at LEXIA. His practice focusses on international arbitration and litigation in the areas of cross-border commerce, investment and construction, although he also assists clients in international transactional work generally and in foreign investments in Italy. Andrew has over 30 years’ hands-on experience in cross-border transactions and related disputes governed by different laws.

Based in Italy, Andrew is an Australian national who has practiced law in Sydney, London, Rome and Milan and is admitted to practice before the superior courts in these jurisdictions.

Andrew has acted as lead and co-counsel in complex disputes involving parties from different legal cultures. He has in-depth experience in jurisdictional challenges, parallel court/arbitration proceedings, anti-suit injunctions, proceedings for urgent provisional measures and has proven skills in coordinating cross-border teams of lawyers, witnesses and experts.

More recently, Andrew has been appointed as president, sole arbitrator and member of arbitral tribunals under the rules of several arbitration institutions, mainly the ICC Court of Arbitration and the Milan Arbitration Chamber. Andrew is listed in arbitrator panels of several leading international arbitral institutions in Europe, Asia and Australia and is a regular speaker at international arbitration conferences around the world.

Before joining LEXIA, Andrew was a founding partner of an Italian boutique international law firm and, for many years, equity partner of an historical leading Italian law firm.
