Anti-money laundering reporting: farewell to automatic approaches in law firms

Since 1 July 2026, the new Instructions issued by the Italian Financial Intelligence Unit (UIF) on the reporting of suspicious transactions have been in force, introducing an approach increasingly focused on the substantive assessment of relevant cases.

The new framework strengthens the importance of quality of analysis, timeliness of reporting, and traceability of decisions, moving away from approaches based solely on automatic processes and formal indicators.

Among the key developments are the use of technological tools, including artificial intelligence, to identify anomalies, as well as the new provisions concerning the outsourcing of anti-money laundering activities.
